Collingwood, ON

Contract Type: Design-build shell construction

Year: 2023

Description: This project involved a two-storey addition to a private residence located on a ski resort in Collingwood, Ontario. The custom nature of this project makes it a unique addition to our portfolio. The design included a second storey constructed as an open-air deck with a covered canopy roof, supported by monolithic posts extending continuously from the framed and enclosed structure below. Pressure-treated posts were clad in cedar, with pine tongue-and-groove used to finish the ceiling and cedar cladding applied at the gable end. The second-storey floor—also serving as the main floor roof—was designed to be fully watertight and incorporated a minimal 1% slope with a two-ply modified bitumen membrane. The roofing membrane was sealed to all posts and trimmed with cedar, and all additional penetrations, including railing anchor points, were fully sealed during installation. Railing installation was custom designed to maintain a level appearance at the top rail while achieving maximum code-compliant spacing at the underside of the guards. The main floor addition was completed to shell condition and included structural framing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins, insulation, drywall, windows and doors, and exterior cladding.
